Conference on
AFRICAN YOUTH AND AFRICAN VALUES 8 - 11 July 2002

organised by
International Society for Human Values - African Chapter
Accra, Ghana

The African Chapter of the International Society for Human Values organized an African Regional Conference on Youth and Human Values in Accra, Ghana, from 8 to 11 July 2002. The venue for the conference was the campus of the University of Ghana, Legon. The aim of the conference was two-fold: (i) to help the youth of Africa to appreciate the relevance of human values for their own personal development and when they assume leadership role in the future; and (ii) to articulate the African perspective on the theme the conference. The conference, it must be mentioned, was preparatory to the international conference on the same theme to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 8 to 11 October 2002.

Geneva International Conference Center
Geneva, Switzerland

The International Society for Human Values organised a conference in Geneva, Switzerland from the 12th to the 15th September 2000. Sponsored by UNESCO and Novartis Foundation for Sustainable Development and supported by the government of Switzerland and the Canton of Geneva, the conference brought together some 90 leading scientists, philosophers, religious leaders, social scientists, captains of industry and administrators from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, Middle East and North America. The four-day inter-disciplinary, multicultural deliberations centred around identifying 'global human values' that should guide all activities in an attempt to preserve the dignity of the individual and well-being of the entire human race.
